Popcorn, CGI and corny lines are common aspects of the crowd-pleasers these days, but with effects reaching new heights and the prices at the candy bar following the trend it appears plot is once again king. The people want a story, not just epic fight scenes and stunning stars gracing the scene with dollar signs dancing around their bronzed craniums. Here are ten films that will challenge the book of records in 2014, and funnily enough seven of them are sequels.

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – There have been many adaptations of the classic quartet battling Shredder and saving the city, yet this is the most ambitious yet. Headed by Michael Bay, the graphically stunning turtles and their pretty lass April (Megan Fox) will battle their arch nemesis in an all new take on the much-loved tale about genetically enhanced pets. From the trailer it is clear that this will be a more realistic, darker way of bringing the sewer-ninjas to life as Bay reinvents this phenomenon in the same vein as the Transformers.
